The Belgorod region of Russia, which shares a border with Ukraine, reported that 120 civilians have lost their lives due to Ukrainian strikes, with 651 individuals sustaining injuries since the conflict began over two years ago.
Belgorod has faced multiple attacks from Ukrainian artillery, drones, and proxies throughout the past year. The invasion of Ukraine by Russia took place in February 2022.
Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov disclosed that among the casualties, 11 were children, while 51 children were wounded, with some of them undergoing amputations.
In a video message on Telegram, Gladkov expressed the severity of the situation, emphasizing that the attacks persist and casualties continue to rise. He urged citizens to remain cautious during the Orthodox Easter celebrations on May 5.
While Kyiv refutes allegations of targeting civilians and asserts its right to strike Russia, U.S. officials are apprehensive that assaults on Russian territory could lead to an escalation of the conflict. Ukrainian proxies have made repeated attempts to breach the border and advance into Belgorod.
Russia contends that the utilization of Western weaponry in the attacks on Belgorod indicates that the West is effectively involved in the conflict, resulting in the deaths and injuries of numerous soldiers.
