Latest Updates on Ukraine Conflict: Dispute Over Village Seizure as Kyiv and Odesa Endure Drone Strikes
On Monday, Ukraine strongly denied Russia's claim of seizing another village in eastern Ukraine, Novomykhailivka. The village, located approximately 25 miles southwest of Donetsk, was said to be under Russia's control by their Defense Ministry. However, Ukrainian officials refuted this assertion, stating that they still maintain control over the settlement and are actively defending it.
The day before, Russia had announced the capture of Bohdanivka, which is northeast of Chasiv Yar. This indicates a clear effort by Russia to expand its territorial control in the region.
Separately, both Kyiv and Odesa experienced drone attacks from Russia overnight, according to regional authorities. Odesa suffered seven injuries, including two children, while Kyiv also encountered drone activity but fortunately, there were no casualties. Ukraine's air force reported successfully destroying 15 out of 16 Russian drones and repelling an attack involving two Iskander ballistic missiles launched from Russia's Belgorod region. However, CNBC has not yet verified these events.
Despite these challenges, Ukraine remains steadfast in its defense and is seeking support from the United States for additional weaponry and air defense systems to counter Russian aggression along the front lines.
