On Saturday, a regional official appointed by the Kremlin attributed blame to Ukraine for a devastating shelling incident that claimed the lives of 10 individuals, including children, in a town under Russian control within the southern Zaporizhzhia region the previous day.
According to updates from the Tokmak municipal administration via Telegram, the shelling targeted three residential buildings on Friday evening, resulting in the rescue of five survivors from the debris and the hospitalization of 13 individuals. Yevhen Balitsky, the Kremlin-appointed head of the region, provided this information.
Emergency services in Russia continued their efforts on Saturday to search for civilians trapped beneath the wreckage of their homes in Tokmak, a region unlawfully annexed by Moscow from Kyiv following the onset of the conflict with Ukraine in 2022.
In a separate incident, Vladimir Rogov, a Moscow-based official involved in formulating Russian government policy in the annexed territories, reported on Telegram that a Ukrainian rocket struck a machine-building plant in the Russian-controlled Luhansk region of eastern Ukraine, resulting in injuries to three civilians. Leonid Pasechnik, another Kremlin-installed official, relayed this information, mentioning plans to resume operations at the plant without specifying its intended production.
Both Rogov and Pasechnik also asserted that the rocket strike caused damage to residential properties, although immediate evidence to substantiate their claims was not provided. A video shared on Rogov's Telegram channel depicted a plume of smoke rising behind an undamaged low-rise house.
No immediate response or acknowledgment of these attacks was forthcoming from Ukrainian officials.
Meanwhile, in Ukraine, reports emerged of Russian forces shelling a vehicle engaged in food deliveries in the northern Chernihiv region on Saturday, resulting in the tragic death of the civilian driver, as confirmed by regional Governor Vyacheslav Chaus.
Additionally, two civilians lost their lives as a result of Russian attacks on Friday and during the night, both incidents occurring in the Donetsk region along the front lines, according to Telegram posts by local Governor Vadym Filashkin.
Further casualties were reported in the Kharkiv region in the northeast, where overnight shelling by Russian forces left one individual trapped under debris and another wounded, according to updates from local Governor Oleh Syniehubov and Ukrainian emergency services. Both individuals have been hospitalized.
Local Ukrainian authorities documented over a dozen civilians wounded by Russian shelling across various regions of the country during Friday and overnight. Verification of the claims made by Balitsky and Ukrainian authorities was not immediately possible.
