Ministry of Emergency Situations Reports Over 12,000 Homes Flooded Across 39 Regions of Russia

In 39 regions across Russia, there are currently over 12,700 residential buildings that remain flooded due to the ongoing flood situation. The situation is showing signs of improvement in most regions, but in Orenburg, things are getting worse. The city has reported that water has entered almost 3,000 houses and 4,900 household plots. As a result of the difficult circumstances, rescuers have evacuated 1,531 individuals, including 325 children.

However, there is some positive news. In Orsk, where a dam had previously burst, the situation is stabilizing. Over the past 24 hours, approximately 200 houses have been freed from water. In the Kurgan region, the flood has affected 12 settlements, with 269 residential buildings, 409 household plots, a low-water bridge, and seven sections of roads still remaining flooded.

To address the health concerns in the flood zone, people living there are being vaccinated against hepatitis A. This precautionary measure aims to protect the affected population from potential outbreaks of diseases.

The flood situation in Orenburg escalated on April 11 when water approached apartment buildings, leading to the announcement of a mass evacuation by Mayor Sergei Salmin on April 12. The water level in the Ural River in Orenburg rose by 9 cm overnight on April 13, reaching a total of 1171 cm, as reported by Governor Denis Pasler. However, he reassured that the water level has not increased in the last four hours.

During a meeting with President Vladimir Putin, Governor Pasler revealed that the preliminary damage caused by the flood in the region exceeds 40 billion rubles. Assessments of the damage to infrastructure, utility networks, housing, social facilities, and businesses have already been conducted, including in Orsk. The government is actively working to address the aftermath of this devastating flood.
