On April 25, a critical infrastructure facility in the city of Smila, located in Cherkasy Oblast, was targeted by a Russian missile attack. The incident occurred at 6:30 a.m. local time and was preceded by warnings from the Air Force regarding the potential threat of a missile strike in the area.
According to Serhii Ananko, the mayor of Smila, the attack was carried out by Russia and specifically targeted a critical infrastructure facility within the city. Ihor Taburets, the governor of Cherkasy Oblast, confirmed that a critical infrastructure facility had indeed been hit and damaged, although he did not provide further details about its nature.
Fortunately, there were no reported fatalities as a result of the attack. However, six individuals sought medical assistance due to injuries sustained. It is worth noting that all of the injured victims declined hospitalization.
In addition to the impact on the critical infrastructure facility, the attack also caused damage to 47 houses across multiple streets and resulted in shattered windows in a high-rise building.
According to Air Force spokesperson Illia Yevlash, Russia employed an Iskander-K cruise missile in the assault on the city. Smila is situated approximately 30 kilometers (18 miles) southwest of Cherkasy, the capital of Cherkasy Oblast, in central Ukraine.
