Stunning Encounter: Ukrainian Drone Worth £21,000 Disables Russian Radar System Valued at £6,000,000
Captured on camera was the pivotal moment when a Ukrainian drone, valued at a mere £21,000, neutralized a significant Russian radar system. The target was the rotating dish of the Podlyot radar complex, renowned for its ability to track up to 200 targets simultaneously. In the footage, the dish was seen rendered inoperative, followed by another drone disabling the station powering the entire £6 million system.
Ukrainian intelligence reported that the attack successfully damaged both the antenna-feeder installation and the diesel station fueling the complex. The Geese 9 Unit, equipped with innovative technology introduced since 2015, was credited by Ukraine's defense ministry for the operation.
The Podlyot system's function involves target detection and relaying coordinates to anti-aircraft systems, according to MailOnline. Amid the ongoing conflict, Ukraine's effective use of drones has been notable, resulting in the destruction of several Russian warplanes in recent weeks.
While precision missiles, sea drones, and British tanks remain prominent in the arsenal against Putin, Ukraine has faced challenges in utilizing the $10 million Abrams tanks provided by the US. These tanks, dispatched in January 2023 following Kyiv's persistent appeals, have been sidelined due to their vulnerability to detection and attacks by Russian drones.
The proliferation of Russian surveillance drones and hunter-killer drones has significantly heightened the risks to the tanks, with five out of the 31 sent tanks destroyed in the last three months alone.
