Ukrainian Ambassador Describes Russia-Ukraine Conflict as Entering 'Tactical Skirmishes' Phase

Ukraine's Ambassador to Turkey, Vasyl Bodnar, remarked that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine has evolved into a phase of "tactical skirmishes," leading to a wane in global attention toward the ongoing war.

Speaking at the Ukrainian Embassy in Ankara, Bodnar highlighted the relentless assaults by Russia on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, resulting in extensive devastation across numerous cities.

Emphasizing the persistence of Ukraine's diplomatic efforts for peace, Bodnar disclosed plans for a forthcoming peace summit while asserting that direct negotiations with Moscow seem improbable from Kyiv's perspective.

"Our aim is to construct a framework that champions Ukraine's just peace requisites, ensuring equity and contributing to global peace, rather than catering to Russia's aspirations," Bodnar articulated, advocating for the establishment of a peace-centric global order.

Expressing optimism about Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's potential involvement in the upcoming peace summit scheduled for June in Switzerland, Bodnar commended Ankara's past engagement in similar initiatives.

Regarding the relationship between Kyiv and Ankara, Bodnar commended Ankara's initiatives in demining the Black Sea and enhancing navigational safety, aligning with Ukraine's priorities.

Highlighting the robust bilateral ties between the two nations, Bodnar credited the genuine and trust-based friendship between the Ukrainian and Turkish Presidents as pivotal to the positive trajectory of their relations.

He underscored the expansion of cooperation between Ukraine and Turkey, particularly in the defense sector, and hinted at a forthcoming visit by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal to Turkey, accompanied by a significant business forum focusing on trade and Ukraine's reconstruction.

Moreover, Bodnar revealed plans for a June summit in Berlin dedicated to the reconstruction of Ukraine, where Turkish enterprises are expected to participate actively.
