US Military Destroys Numerous Drones Launched from Iran and Yemen

The US military has disclosed that it thwarted numerous drones and at least six ballistic missiles aimed at Israel from Iran and Yemen.

According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), American forces intercepted over 80 one-way attack drones, including seven UAVs targeted on the ground before launch. In a statement on Monday, CENTCOM underscored Iran's ongoing destabilizing actions, emphasizing the threat they pose to regional stability and the safety of US and coalition forces.

Following Iran's unprecedented attack on Israeli territory late Saturday, which was purportedly in retaliation for a suspected Israeli strike on its embassy in Syria, CENTCOM reiterated its commitment to supporting Israel's defense against such perilous actions by Iran. The assault, employing more than 300 drones and missiles, resulted in minimal damage, with most of the threats neutralized by Israel's Iron Dome missile defense system or by US and allied efforts.

US President Joe Biden commended the skill of American forces in assisting Israel in countering the majority of the incoming threats. While affirming unwavering support for Israel's self-defense, Biden cautioned against US involvement in any retaliatory measures by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's administration against Tehran.

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin emphasized the continued readiness of US forces to safeguard American troops and partners in the region, reinforce Israel's defense, and promote stability in the area.

The escalating tensions between Israel and Iran have raised concerns regionally and globally, prompting appeals for restraint from neighboring Middle Eastern countries and major global powers.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned on Sunday that the Middle East teeters on the brink of a devastating full-scale conflict. He urged for immediate efforts to defuse and de-escalate the situation, stressing the urgent need for dialogue and diplomacy.
