Ukrainian Drone Attack Ignites Fire at Russian Oil Refinery

A Russian oil refinery in Ryazan found itself engulfed in flames following an apparent strike by suspected Ukrainian drones, as confirmed by the region’s governor. The incident occurred overnight, igniting a fire that reportedly caused significant damage, according to the Russian Telegram news channel Astra. Sources have pointed towards the Ukrainian military intelligence service as the orchestrator behind the operation, as informed by the Kyiv Post.

Governor Pavlo Malkov of Ryazan acknowledged the ongoing investigation into the site on Tuesday morning, emphasizing that, fortunately, there were no reported fatalities resulting from the attack. Despite this relief, concerns loom over the potential ramifications of such assaults.

In response to these developments, the United States has urged Ukraine to cease its strikes on Russia’s oil and energy infrastructure. The U.S. administration has cautioned that such drone attacks not only pose a threat to global oil prices but also risk inciting retaliatory measures.

The targeted refinery, owned and operated by Rosneft, holds significant importance, refining approximately 5.8 percent of Russia’s total refined crude. This isn’t the first time it has come under attack, as it has been a recurring target for air strikes originating from Ukraine.
