Russia Asserts Shooting Down US-Manufactured Missiles Fired by Ukraine

The Russian Ministry of Defence has officially reported the successful interception of six Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) rockets, without revealing the exact location of the incident. Nevertheless, officials in annexed Crimea disclosed that some of the missiles were taken down over the Black Sea peninsula.

Sergei Aksyonov, the appointed leader of Crimea by Russia, mentioned that one of the missiles was intercepted in the village of Donskoye, near Simferopol, the main city of Crimea. Aksyonov advised residents to avoid approaching any unexploded submunitions and instructed them to contact emergency services or the police if they come across any.

A photo shared by Aksyonov displayed a metallic sphere allegedly from the destroyed missile, although Russia has not confirmed whether the missiles caused any damage in Crimea.

Previous reports from Russian-occupied southern Ukraine indicated air defense activities over Simferopol and the town of Dzankoi in northern Crimea. Despite Ukraine's history of attacks in Crimea during Russia's prolonged offensive, Ukrainian authorities have chosen not to comment on the incident that occurred on Tuesday.

This interception coincides with the ongoing military assistance provided by the United States to Ukraine, with Washington confirming the delivery of ATACMS missiles in February. Ukrainian forces have been anticipating the arrival of more US weapons, approved by President Joe Biden after facing delays due to political discussions in Congress.
