Ukraine Reports Destruction of Aircraft in Drone Strike Near Rostov's Morozovsk Airfield

According to the BBC Ukrainian Service, sources within the Ukrainian security forces claim that the SBU carried out a drone attack on the Morozovsk military airfield in the Rostov region. They state that six military aircraft were destroyed and eight others were significantly damaged. However, the Russian Ministry of Defense only reported that 44 Ukrainian drones were shot down in the Rostov region.

The airfield was known to house Su-27 fighters and Su-34 front-line bombers, which have been actively operating along the front line recently.

The news of the drone strike on Morozovsk first emerged on Friday night. Around 2 AM Moscow time, the governor of the Rostov region, Vasily Golubev, released a brief message stating that air defense units were repelling a massive UAV attack in the Morozovsky region.

Prior to this, Russian media, including the propaganda outlet "Readovka," had reported that the airfield in Morozovsk was the target of the attack.

Golubev later mentioned that the drones hit an electrical substation, causing minor damage, and fortunately, no one was injured at that time.

In another telegram post, the governor revealed that an explosive device detonated on one of the fallen drones near the airfield, resulting in eight people being injured. Investigative actions were carried out at the site of the drone crash.

During the night, it was also reported that Ukrainian drones targeted the city of Engels in the Saratov region, where Russian heavy bombers are stationed. The governor of the Saratov region, Roman Busargin, stated that a UAV was eliminated in Engels early in the morning, but there were no casualties or damage to infrastructure from falling debris.

Based on the information provided, it is unclear whether one drone or multiple drones were destroyed. Local reports mentioned multiple explosions, but it is uncertain if the air target was shot down by missiles.
