Ukraine's Military Intelligence Claims Successful Strike on Russian Radar System Valued at $5 Million
Ukraine’s military intelligence agency (HUR) and the 15th Separate Artillery Reconnaissance Brigade conducted an operation targeting a Russian Podlet-K1 radar station, as reported by HUR on April 27.
The Podlet-K1, also referred to as the 48Ya6-K1, is a sophisticated mobile radar system specifically designed to detect air targets flying at low and extremely low altitudes, as detailed on the Army Recognition website. Valued at approximately $5 million, this system has the capability to track up to 200 targets simultaneously.
During the attack, the station’s antenna post and diesel generator were struck, according to HUR. However, the agency did not disclose any additional information regarding the assault or the extent of the damage caused.
According to HUR's statement on Telegram, the Podlet radar station is a relatively recent Russian innovation that was first introduced to the aggressor state’s military in 2015. This system was utilized by the adversary to identify and relay target coordinates to Russian S-300/S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems.
On April 17, Ukrainian drones launched an attack on a military facility in the city of Kovylkino in Russia's Mordovia Republic, located approximately 800 kilometers away from the Ukrainian border. The strike targeted a Container radar station, as revealed by an intelligence source to the Kyiv Independent.
